RoboCop 1986 Ford Taurus

Kit: ERTL Robo-1 Ford Taurus SHO 1/24 Scale

I got into a model-making kick in 1996-7 and during that time I got this great catalog full of discontinued kits.

The real movie cars were not SHO (Super High Output) models, but in a pinch it works. It squeaks like mad when it rolls, but otherwise it’s in good shape. Also the license plate is supposed to be a bar code like in the movie. -1 point.

Basically it’s the ERTL Taurus SHO model with police mods like a criminal cage between the front and backseat, a police radio, and light bars. Some good detailed parts in there. Really sure the movie cars weren’t a 5-speed.

It had a pretty basic chrome lump of an engine and the chrome headlights (no glass) so it’s not the most detailed model.

Dual exhaust is about the only interesting thing going on underneath the car.

I love the flat black paint on the movie cars, so it was very important to me to replicate that. It turned out well, mostly because flat black is like the easiest color to work with.

The wheels aren’t accurate to the movie, but otherwise it’s basically a pretty good rendition of the movie car. It’s managed to survive all these years and is still on display in 2022.
