Kit: MPC Country Charger 1969 Dodge Charger 1/25 Scale
Quentin Tarantino’s tribute to 1970s car films “Death Proof” featured this Charger in the second half of the film. I did this as a class project in 2020 but really any excuse to make a model is a good one!
The car is used by Stuntman Mike to sideswipe the “Vanishing Point” style 1970 Dodge Challenger. This really mangles the sides of both cars.
The side of the car is all pushed in and dented – I used an iron and dremel to help achieve this effect.
The entire inside of this car is lined in roll cage. It was a lot of scratch-building. The seats had cheap covers with holes in them so I did my best to replicate that.
Back seat was removed and panels installed in its place. There was so much roll cage to make!
I made this little duck hood ornament from scratch. Turned out just how I hoped! The chrome is from a Molotow pen.
I had a great time detailing the chassis. Lots of rust and corrosion.
I added some windshield scum and lines where the wipers cleaned it off.
Pictures of the real movie car revealed the inside of the engine bay was originally green so I painted accordingly. Really basic engine from MPC here.
Overall I’m quite pleased with how this turned out! Proudly on display in my collection.
