Kit: Die-Cast Maisto 1998 Jeep Wrangler 1/27 Scale
I picked up a half dozen of these 1/27 scale Jeep Wranglers around 2015 with the intent to make several of them. 1/27 was an odd choice but I suspect it has something to do with the size of the box.
I had to grind off the front fender and made a replacement out of styrene. I had intended to make a mold and resin copies of these pieces but in the end it wasn’t going to be worth all that effort to make what was still not a 100% accurate replica. I just used the originals on this one model.
Part of the frustration was based on it being the wrong year Jeep. The wheels and front headlights just aren’t the right thing.
Interior was painted and customized with the Sahara Edition colorway and little pouches.
If nothing else I did a lot of graphic design work on this car and thus figured out how to do things like the hood and fender numbers. I used a Cameo Silhouette to help cut the decal paper, which was spray painted the same red as the car so it all matched.
Hand-made winch and custom license plate.
I ended up selling this car for a good price, then selling the rest of the 1/27 Maisto models as well.
