Not the first Snowspeeder kit I made, but it is the one that managed to survive. Likely circa 1993 or so, these were still readily availble in hobby shops.
Funny story.. the first one I made turned out just great. I wondered how could I display this in such a cool way?
I decided to make it look like it was ditched in the snow. I got a large base piece of wood and then proceeded to cover it in paper mache material to look like mounds of snow. I jammed the snowspeeder into it, gave it a bit of extra snow here and there, and voila!
Well as it turns out.. the water from the paper mache soaked into the board. The board clearly didn’t appreciate that and so it warped so ferociously that it crushed the model.
By the time it was dry it was almost like a fortune cookie and my model was trapped inside. These pilots were lucky to not be a part of this.
Pew pew pew! But really, these pilots are absolutely bizarre looking!
So anyway, in the end, my original model was crushed to pieces and I had to start over with this one. Which has managed to survive the last 25+ years and is still in my collection.
