1968 Ford Timelord (KLF)

Kit: 1970 Ford Galaxie Police Car 1/25 Scale

If anyone remembers the pop/dance group The KLF (AKA The Timelords) and their music videos then this might be a familiar sight. I finally got to make this model in 2019 but it’s been on my mind since the early 1990s.

This is an image from their album where they call themselves The Timelords. “Ford Timelord” made a record featuring the “Dr. Who” Theme called Doctorin’ The Tardis. The car was featured in the music video as well as other videos from their library. In the music videos the light is red but on the album it’s blue. This car changed often throughout its use with the band.

Finding clear photos of this old car was very tricky. Lots of internet scouring. They also made a very hard to find movie called “The White Room,” to which the soundtrack was released as an album of the same name. I doubt most anyone has ever even seen it but it’s an art piece with great music.

This is a 1970 Galaxie – the one in the film is a 1968. It’s pretty close. The story goes that the car (not police) originally was used in a brief scene that was cut from Superman IV which was filmed in England. The car was eventually sold off and turned into a Bluesmobile replica, then ended up in the hands of Jimmy Cauty from the KLF. It slowly (d)evolved into this majestic beast.

I was quite proud of my scratch-built siren setup. The light came with the kit I believe.

All the white scum on the car came from a scene in The White Room where the whole car was painted white at one point. Most of it came off eventually but not all. I also replicated the rust hole in the lower rear fender.

Again through extensive scouring of any photos and videos I could find I discovered the “Skateboarding is not a crime” bumper sticker on the roof so I made sure to include it.

Your basic 60s era interior, in dark brown with some filth added.

Hard to tell but I did work pretty hard to get the texture and colors right.

It came with an engine and basic engine bay setup. I chose not to overly detail this because it was never featured in any media.

I aged the chassis a bit with some surface rust and general grime.

I am delighted with how this turned out and it’s definitely still on display.
